About: ArtBark, after a triumphant premiere of Alma.Sama at the Cankarjev Dom in Ljubljana, grounds back into its local expression.  Continuing with its local tradition of nurturing artistic excellence via creating golden bridges of lush performing and teaching opportunity to artists living in other regions of the world, they continue to invigorate the local arts scene with a studio showing of inter-active creative play, storytelling, improvisation, and contemporary dance.  ArtBark Local is a project of the Future Traditions Foundation and builds on over 2 decades of giving to the Santa Barbara community.

Nancy Evans Dance Theatre’s Creative Offering

“Shift In Expectations” [excerpt from SHIFT (2011)]
Choreography: Nancy Evans Doede
Original Score: Blake Colie
Danced by: Katrina Amerine, Ashleigh Doede, Jen Hunter, Karina Jones

This section deals with the ongoing expectations placed on women in societies to uphold the appearance of doing everything well and correctly, reflecting positively and politely on their societies. What happens when women begin to discover they have individual colors, don’t fit the mold, are no longer willing to be still? How will they deal with that new-found energy?

“Shifting Sands: Age vs Time” [excerpt from SHIFT (2011)] Choreography: Nancy Evans Doede
Original Score: Blake Colie
Danced by: Jenn Logan and Scot Tupper

Time is constantly bringing change. Women in many societies feel that time does not honor them as they age. They are not as beautiful, not as trim, not as valuable to the men in their cultures. Women often struggle with this inevitable change as time matures them. What happens when a woman turns her fear of time into a confrontation with time? Can she turn her struggles into victory?

“There Between” (2013)
Choreography: Nikolaos Crist Doede
Music by: Max Richter
Danced by: Katrina Amerine, Ashleigh Doede, Jenn Logan

Loss comes into everyone’s life. How does each person involved in that loss cope with it? How do we hold on when we have to let go?

“Lucy” (2015)
Choreography: Jenn Logan Music by: Ludovic Bource Danced by: Ashleigh Doede
