How the Creative Process Became the Journey
Stone
Stone is a new medium for me, and given that our system is adept at SO MANY THINGS there aren't enough hours in the day to do and be all of me in one given day. I am developing a rhythm that is more predictable breathing between different mediums and am presently working on my second stone carving. I LOVE IT! What I love about it is that it helps one REALLY slow down. I love being able to see the negative space within the stone, and how the rock that wants to be carved seemingly calls out to you. One just KNOWS which one wants to be brought to life. I hope I live a lot longer, and my health holds up, just so I can carve some more.
2 hours into my first stone carving
100 + hours into the work.
It is aptly titled, Humility.
Rock carving is a distinctly humbling process and is a good form for nurtuing awe and a deep sense of wonderment.
