Chat from the Heart
Alma.Sama.
in California
Alma.Sama.
We were successful in bringing the project to ARC Pasadena, and to the Gail Towbes Center for Dance in Santa Barbara! The community went on to work together with a final project in Fall of 2019 in New York City.
Alma.Sama.
Alma.Sama. was an evening length work of dance and physical theater that draws inspiration from the life of Alma Karlin (1889-1950.)
A visionary beyond her times, she dared to shed all that she had been reared to believe as the "right" course of action for a woman of her standing. She inhabited a life that manifest the calling of her soul, even when it resulted in being shunned and rejected by her community. She stood strong and never failed to speak out when a voice was needed in the period of WWII in Central Europe bravely enduring the consequences. Her life challenges every individual to pursue a life that fulfills the calling of one's soul, heart, spirit and curiosity.
She sheds light on what the physical and emotional fibers of a visionary might embody. Now is the time for creative solutions to many problems in our world. Some solutions may not arise from within existing governing arenas. They may surface from brave spirits such as Alma's. It is this heart that this work celebrates as a beacon of confidence in humankind’s ability to evolve sagely, wisely, in interest of the well- being of all expressions of life with care for the health of the planet we call home.

JUNE 18th, 22nd, 2015
Alma Alone premieres at the Cankarjev Dom
Sold out opening night, only a few seats were left on the 22nd. Rave reviews from the audience as well as our co-producers. Job well done! Three years of collective effort went into the manifesting of this powerful vision. We have been invited back to Slovenia to participate in the Women of the City Festival - which would launch us to the forefront of the contemporary arts scene.
2016
We returned to our respective cities
We took a break from Alma.Sama. in 2016 and focused on development of new works by our choreographers and shared these creations in CT, NY, and CA.

May 2017
We successfully reprised Alma.Sama. for West Coast audiences in Los Angeles County at ARC Pasadena, and in Santa Barbara County at the Gail Towbes Center for Dance. Misa Kelly received a prestigious Santa Barbara Independent "indy" award for artistic direction of this event. It was her second local indy award, the first being for the SB-ADaPT Festival.
