Alma Karlin was a great adventurer who travelled the world at a time when few women travelled.  She travelled in the period from 24 November 1919 to 28 December 1927.  She was a polygot, painter, and author of numerous books and is honored as a Slovenian cultural heroine.  She was born in Celje when it was a part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, then Yugoslavia, and is now in the country of Slovenia.  ArtBark co-founder Mojca Majcen lives in Celje, and ArtBark co-founder Misa Kelly's grandparents immigrated from this region.  In 2012 she met relatives living in Celje as well as in Logarska Dolina and Koper and very much looks forwards to performing for the community.

Upon arrival our dramaturges Marijan arranged for us to meet with anthropologist Barbara

Trnovec who is an expert on the life of Alma Karlin.  Presently there is much mis-information on the internet about Alma.   Rather than provide you to links which may contain mis-information we point you in the direction of Barbara Trnovec with hopes that her 1st book on Alma, Kolumbova Hci will be published in other languages.

The book "Odyssey of a Lonely Woman," which in part inspired this work, is presently out of print.
