The Bisque Series
Working in clay is a profound, alchemical, and beautiful journey, and relatively new to me. I have a vague recollection of a ceramics class in High School, and clay rediscovered me in a roundabout way when I was asked to model for a clay portraiture class. I was so deeply moved by the community that I decided to enroll in the clay portraiture class myself. I was stunned at how easily it flowed.
I love the look of fresh clay freshly sculpted the best.
Then comes the bisque, when the clay is first fired.
and then the magic of glaze.
Bisque to me is the magic of the place in-between incomplete and complete.
As a point of departure I am playing with the concept of the magical creature.
I have suspended all showing of my work until I feel this process is complete.
My next show will include these works and the dances and drawings and songs and writings that emerged in tandem with this expression.
A multi-disciplinary expression.
Perhaps to make my 60th birthday.
